AMERICAN HUSTLE!!!Thank you so much Christina for taking the time to answer some questions! My pleasure. Firstly, most of us know you as Christina Parie the 15 year old pocket rocket finalist from the third season of X-factor 2011. So take us back to your first audition, what was it like for someone so young to be in a competition that big, with so many other fantastic artists? It must have been nerve racking! It was definitely nerve racking taking those first few steps onto the stage about to perform, not only in front of the judges, but the entire nation. Throughout the entire experience of the show though…. I was completely fearless and ready. It was my dream come true! All I ever wanted to do was to be able to sing on a stage every night in front of great crowds… Still do! In 2012 you released your debut single, 16 and unstoppable and also your debut EP titled the same. How did it feel at the time, for you to have your music out there for the world to hear? That whole time period was so exciting. It was my first commercial release! I was doing promo, hearing my song on the radio, putting out CD’s with my face on the cover, all for the first time. From being just a girl from the suburbs to having an iTunes Top 10 EP!? It was all surreal for me. You not only performed at first Nickelodeon Australia's slime fest concert and were a support act alongside Johnny ruffo on Reece mastins first headlining Australian tour but you also got an opportunity to tour with the incredible Simple plan. How did that come about, did the band contact you? I had put out a cover of Simple Plan’s song “Jet Lag” and tweeted it. Then my incredible fans started sharing it and tweeting it to the band, which Simple Plan responded and asked me to join them on the Australian leg of the “Get Your Heart On!” Tour! I remember screaming and waking my family up when I found out. They were one of my favourite bands and now I was touring with them. Best part about it is they’ve now become real great friends of mine and we’ve worked together writing since. After your success following x-factor you went M.I.A. for a little while, reinvented your sound and look and returned as KYA. But recently you decided to take it back to Christina & now go by the name, CHRISTINA CASTLE. What has that transitional journey been like for you and what's involved in finding yourself as an artist? It’s always a difficult journey trying to find yourself as an artist, especially when you’re in the public eye as young as I was. I had sooooo many different people around me sharing their own opinions and visions. While all that is great and sometimes works for other people, that system didn’t and still doesn’t work for me. I’m not just a singer. I’m a songwriter and musician, and I think it took the years of being in the industry, being signed to a major label, doing millions of sessions, going through the bullshit, gaining the experience and knowledge for me to have the confidence within myself and my own talents to know who I am and who I’m not. Christina Castle represents everything that I am. Christina castle, I'm more than intrigued! What was your inspiration for the name? Well I’m currently in the middle of writing my debut album, and VERY early on in the process (after writing the first song!!), I just knew that I had to be called Christina. I had this crazy thought like… “If I were to win a Grammy for this album, would I feel comfortable with them calling up anyone other than Christina?” It’s so personal and direct. The lyrics are very detailed and give away so much about me that Christina Castle was the way to go. Christina + (from) Castle Hill = Christina Castle. How different are you now compared to your 16 year old self? What's changed? How different are you now compared to your 16 year old self haha!? Everything’s different. The way I look, the clothes I wear, and the way I speak. It’s all a growth; I went through my teen years, like everyone else, trying to figure it all out, what works and what doesn’t. Christina you were born in castle hill and you have an older sister and a younger brother, the middle child is always infamous for getting into mischief what were you like growing up? Oh god…just ask my parents, ha! I wasn’t a “bad kid”, but I was definitely very strong, mischievous and always doing things that I’m sure my parents would’ve preferred me not doing. Now you dropped out of school to peruse music full time. Was it a difficult choice to make? No way. Music has and always will be my life. How supportive have your family and friends been of your music career? Have you ever caught them secretly rocking out to your songs hehe? They have always been very supportive. It comes with its challenges since I have such a unique lifestyle that I think for them sometimes it’s hard to understand. There is NO secret rocking out sessions… more like blasting it in their cars singing all the words. I’m sure my entire neighborhood knows them already. Where did it all start, why music? I really couldn’t tell you. I have always been a performer and really creative as a child. Any form of creative expression I was obsessed with. I think music overruled them all though when I was 10 years old and started singing and writing my own songs on the piano. Then it all just took off from there. I read that you were originally in a band, what made you decide to go solo? Yes, I loved being in bands. I’m really such a rocker at heart, although, I always had the dream of being the big pop star. Those years were so crucial though. Playing in bands taught me things that you can’t learn being solo. Who inspires you musically? I have so many different influences and inspirations across all genres. I usually use them to help get me “in a mood” or create a vibe. Right now I’m currently obsessed with 90’s battle rap. I watched your most recent cover of HEATHENS by twenty one pilots and I have to say it's was absolutely beautiful. Can we expect more videos soon? Thank you, and yes you can! I’ve been documenting my songwriting process as I’m writing the album and I’m going to be putting out Vlogs to show the process and journey as a 20 year old making her dreams happen in America. #AmericanHustle !! What can we expect from you next, new music? World tour? Global domination? It seems the possibilities are endless for you! All of the above! The music industry is notoriously difficult, do you have any advice for people trying to break into it? It is. You’re totally right. There is no right or wrong way to do it. I’m still figuring it out. At the end of the day, it’s all about the song. Stay creative and keep writing. Lastly Christina, everyone has days where they struggle, sometimes life just gets the best of us! How do you cope on days like that and what would you say to your fans who might be struggling or having a bad day themselves? There are always good and bad days. When things are good, enjoy them. When they’re bad, know that they’re only going to get better. You need bad days to appreciate when it’s good. Well thank you so much Christina it has been a pleasure talking to you, you're a beautiful and talented person and I can not wait to see what comes next for you! Thank you! "You need bad days Christina is currently working on her social medias to get everything organised to represent her new image!
